报告人简介：

刘勉教授，美国亚利桑那大学地球物理学博士。1992年起就职美国密苏里大学，历任校董事会杰出教授、William H. Byler 杰出讲席教授、系主任。曾兼任中国科学院计算地球动力学重点实验室主任 (2013-2018)、Tectonophysics 主编（2008-2015）、国际大地测量和地球物理学会（IUGG）地震与地球动力学委员会主席（2017-2022)、国际岩石圈计划秘书长（2019-2025）。2023 年获美国地质学会George P. Woollard Award (地球物理终身贡献奖)。2025年九月到南方科技大学任讲席教授。主要研究方向是地球动力学。

报告摘要：

This presentation summarizes our numerical studies of fault interactions across different timescales and their seismic implications. Faults constantly evolve over geological timescales, influencing present-day seismicity and strain accumulation. During earthquake cycles, fault interactions alter static and dynamic stresses and tectonic loading, which drives earthquake clustering in both time and space. These interactions also affect the initiation, propagation, and arrest of seismic ruptures. The nonlinear nature of fault interactions complicates the prediction of individual fault behavior, necessitating a system-level approach to fault dynamics.
