报告人简介:

刘丽军,美国伊利诺伊大学香槟分校(UIUC)教授,2003年获得中国科大学士学位,2005年获美国约翰霍普金斯大学硕士学位,2010年获美国加州理工大学博士学位。2012年起,任UIUC助理教授、副教授、教授。他的研究领域主要为定量地球动力学,利用多学科的观测数据,通过正演和反演动力学模型来研究地幔对流、板块俯冲、大陆岩石圈演化等深部过程及其与地表过程的相互作用。已在Nature、Science、Nature Geoscience、Geology等国际著名学术期刊发表70余篇学术论文。

报告题目:The history and dynamics of India-Asia collision

报告内容简介

India-Asia collision represents one of the most dramatic Cenozoic tectonic events on Earth. Both the dynamic origin and collisional process of this event remain debated. We circumvent these questions through quantitative geodynamic modeling that attempts to satisfy multiple observational constraints.  Here, I will introduce some preliminary results along these efforts. For example, we evaluate the driving mechanism of the collision through global subduction models with data assimilation by simultaneously matching the Cenozoic plate motion history, present mantle seismic structure, and force balance of the India-Tibet system. We elucidate the nature of the subducted Greater Indian plate through matching the crustal volume of Himalaya, the spatial-temporal tectonic records within Tibet and its present-day lithospheric architecture. We also attempt to constrain the timing and style of the collisional process through matching the rotation history of the incoming Indian plate.
