Since Y. Okada developed his earthquake dislocation theory based on a homogeneous elastic half space in 1980s, many people have developed computational software that consider more complicated Earth model, such as the layered-Earth model PSGRN/PSCMP by Dr. Rongjiang Wang and the spherical Earth model STATIC1D by Dr. Fred Pollitz. However, there was no uniform standard for the description of the faults and the format of the finite fault files. I wrote scripts to unify the input and output of the coseismic displacement calculation of 5 different software developed by different research groups. Through this practice I independently found that those software are implicitly using different map projections without directly telling the users. And after a number of tests using a projection library PROJ, Ifound that the map projection issue in this calculation may have more importanteffects on the calculation of the Earth deformation. Such effects had been previously underestimated.
