固物研究生论坛 - An earthquake swarm beneath Sulzberger Ice Shelf

While it used to be thought seismically inactive, recent years have witnessed more and more seismic events identified in Antarctica. Those events provided critical information about the volcanic, glacial or tectonic processes of Antarctica. In 2012, seven events with magnitude larger than 3.0 are detected in the area of Sulzberger ice shelf in west Antarctica, an ice shelf that has undergone a series of complex geological phenomenon such as ice melting, calving and rifting. In this presentation, we perform detailed analysis of the spatial and temporal distributions of seismic events from 2010 to 2017. Furthermore, we provide four seismic evidences to find the source property of the seismic events as potential long-period volcanic earthquakes.
