报告题目: Continental rifting in Africa: Seismological insights from the lower mantle to crust
The rifting of continents and eventual formation of ocean basins is a fundamental component of plate tectonics, yet the mechanism for break-up is poorly understood. In this talk I will describe how a series of seismic experiments in Ethiopia and surrounding regions have led to a new model of continental break-up, highlighting the role of mantle flow, dynamic topography and magma-assisted rifting in Africa.
