| The School of earth and
space sciences was found in 1978. At present, there are
two Academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),
25 professors and 38 associate professors. Our research
and education cover mainly five fields: space physics,atmospheric
physics and atmospheric environment, geophysics, geochemistry
and environmental science. Among them, the disciplines
of space physics and geochemistry were selected as national
key disciplines by the Chinese ministry of education in
2002.
Since its foundation, the school has trained more
than 2000 achelors, 200 masters and 30 doctors. At present,
more than 300 undergraduates, 50 postgraduates and 20
doctoral candidates are studying and doing their researches
at the school. Among the graduates of our school, Dr.
Wen lianxing won the James B. Macelwane Medal of AGU
in 2003; Dr. Song xiaodong made great achievements in
the research of the differential rotation of Earth inner
core; Pr. Chen rong,Pr. Shi yaolin and Pr. Li congyin
were separately elected as the Academicians of Chinese
Academy of Sciences.
The professors of the school are actually responsible
for many important research projects such as: three
key projects and more than 20 general projects of National
Science Foundation of China, four key projects of the
CAS's Knowledge Innovation Program, 4 project of national
basic research program (named as 973) etc. Many fruitful
achievements have been honored with National Science
Awards, provincial and ministerial Prizes of natural
science. And three doctoral theses are honored as the
national one hundred best theses.
The present dean of the School is professor Chang
yinfou, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and
Chinese Academy of Technology.
