Dr. Almuhaidib
Abdulaziz Almuhaidib started his career with Saudi Aramco in 2004 where he completed several assignments in prospect generation, seismic data acquisition and processing, well-site geology, and velocity-depth model building. He held various leadership roles including the Champion of Geophysical Data Acquisition Focus Area and acting Chief Technologist of the Geophysics Technology Division at Saudi Aramco Exploration and Petroleum Engineering Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC), before assuming his current role as Branch Manager of Beijing Research Center. Abdulaziz holds a B.Sc. degree from the University of Tulsa, M.Sc. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and PhD degree from MIT, all in Geophysics. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles published in scientific journals and conference papers covering the areas of elastic wave modeling and imaging, near-surface scattering, signal processing, and reservoir characterization. Abdulaziz is an active member of SEG, AAPG, and SPE.
New Frontiers in Seismic Data Acquisition


In seismic data acquisition, the enormous scale of field operations and associated challenges create an immense need to develop new innovative technologies focusing on three strategic objectives; reducing cost, shortening duration, and obtaining accurate broadband subsurface images to help geoscientists in mapping reservoir boundaries and characterizing reservoir properties. These objectives are pursued by tapping on research projects across four main data acquisition thrusts, including the development of fit-for-purpose instrumentation solutions, enhanced field acquisition configurations, efficient field operations, and optimized economically viable solutions. In this presentation, several key technologies reshaping the current industry trends and spanning the short-, medium-, and long-term seismic data acquisition research portfolio will be highlighted.
